May Day Basket

Happy May Day from St. Anne’s! On May 1, the doors of many homes and businesses in Annapolis are adorned with baskets of fresh flowers and colorful ribbons in a tradition dating back to 1956. Thanks go to Mary-Sophia Smith and Ariel Biddle, who created this year’s basket.

Sunday Forum

This Sunday, St. Anne’s Refugee Committee will present a panel discussion about helping to resettle refugee families.  The panel will be led by Bill Silva from St. Anne’s Refugee Committee, who will update the parish on its efforts to assist a refugee family. The other panelists will be Autumn Orme from Lutheran Social Services who will provide an overview of refugee resettlement efforts, in general, and two parishioners of St. Margaret’s, Ernie Tucker and Pamela Roth, who will describe their experiences helping refugees. Sunday Forum takes place at 11:00 in the Parish Hall of the Parish House.

Choral Evensong

Join the Choir of St. Anne’s in the quiet and beautiful service of sung prayers in the ancient monastic tradition. Experience for yourself the power of Mary’s Song and Simeon’s departing prayer as your day comes to a close. Bring a friend and go out for dinner afterwards. The service lasts no more than 45 minutes. You’ll be glad you came.
Environmental Ministry Plant Sale
 The Environmental Ministry’s annual plant sale will be on Sunday, May 13 before and after the 9:30 service. This year will be a bit different since we will be sharing the leftover plants from the Annapolis Horticulture Society’s sale the day before at the Farmers’ Market with St. Luke’s and St. Philip’s. Thus the number and variety of plants will be smaller than in previous years. Profile Committee


Profile Committee Update: The Profile Committee is continuing efforts to connect with all members of the congregation to ascertain your views and collect feedback about the state of the congregation and St. Anne’s as a whole. We are tasked with creating a Ministry Portfolio, which will be used by the yet-to-be-created Search Committee to recruit and select the best candidate to become our new permanent rector.  We distributed an e-mail invitation to complete an electronic survey on April 26 and are seeking inputs from as many parishioners as possible by May 20. Your responses provide vital feedback! For members who have not received this e-mail invitation, please check your spam folders. If you would like a copy, contact the committee at: *protected email*. If you are not able to complete an electronic version or would prefer a paper option, the survey can be downloaded as a PDF and printed at home from: Paper copies will also be available at services the weekends of May 5 and 6 and May 12 and 13. Special paper surveys will also be available at the weekend service of May 5 for children and young people 14 and under. At each service, Committee members will be on hand to discuss how the survey works and why it is an important part of this process. We also are providing opportunities for parishioners to participate in meetings with Committee members to share their thoughts on the future of St. Anne’s. There will be multiple opportunities for your views to be shared with Committee members, including a forum on May 13 at 11:00 AM. Children and Youth News

Children and Youth Sunday Discovery will meet on April 29 from 10:45-11:30 AM in the Parish House.




Schedules are a balancing act and we want to hear what you want and need for your child’s spiritual growth. We will explore the difficult questions: What do you want? What times work for you? And any ideas you have, even “out of the box and crazy!” Come and help us make next year’s children, youth, and family programs amazing AND work for you! There are three 90-minute listening sessions planned.

  • Sunday, May 6 – 12:00 PM: For families with children in Pre-K through the fifth grade. Light lunch provided.
  • Saturday, May 12 – 10:00 AM: For families with infants and toddlers. Snacks and coffee provided.
  • Sunday, May 20 – 12:00 PM: For parents and youth who are in middle and high school. Light lunch provided.

High School Senior Recognition and Harrison Sayre Award

Congratulations to the class of 2018. St. Anne’s Church would like to recognize your achievement and send you off on your next endeavor with blessings. Graduating high school seniors will be recognized on Sunday, May 13 at the 9:30 service. Names and a brief bio will be posted in the bulletin, and young people will be invited to receive a blessing and prayers during the service. On the same day, the Harrison Sayre Award will be granted.  Please join us in support and celebration of our high school seniors. The deadline to submit your graduating senior’s information is Thursday, May 4 at noon. If you would like your child or grandchild to be recognized, please submit the following: name, high school he/she is graduating from, any honors or recognition, plans for college or work after graduation.

St. Anne’s is fortunate to have so many people who volunteer with children and youth on our behalf. There are Discovery teachers, Sycamore Tree volunteers, photographers, VBS Camp assistants, Baptism Workshop helpers, Stanton Center Homework Club helpers, and many more! Very Big Story Camp

Join First Presbyterian and St. Anne’s Parish for the Very Big Story Camp!
July 9-13, 2018, from 9:00 AM to noon.
For ages four-years-old through 5th grade.

Daily Themes:

I Am the Bread of Life – John 6:35
I Am the Good Shepherd – John 10:11
I Am the True Vine – John 15:5
I Am the Light of the World – John 8:12
I Am the Resurrection and the Life – John 3:16

  • Groups will form by age and grade, including a special group for rising 4th and 5th graders!
  • We are accepting applications for Jr. Counselors who are rising 6th graders through High School Seniors
  • Registrations are due no later than June 27. Space is limited, so register early!
  • VBS Camp is free but donations are welcome. Also, please consider helping with snacks, or assisting with small groups.

Partners in Mission in Guatemala

Can you imagine being a young teenage girl and not having access to a private and clean place to go to the bathroom?  Shudder, shudder!  Let’s pull together and support the families who are ready to build new latrines in their communities with just a little financial help from St. Anne’s.  The PIMIG team will be at the back of the church for the next two weekends to share more information and to receive your donations.  Thank you.




Foyer Groups

Foyer Groups Invitation:

The end of season picnic for all Foyer Group participants (as well as anyone interested in learning more about the Foyer Groups) will be held Sunday, June 10 at 6:00 PM at St. Anne’s in the circle.  In the event of inclement weather, the picnic will be moved to the parish house.

Please bring a beverage of your choice and an appetizer to share.  (each group leader is asked to designate one member of their group to bring a dessert; all other participants are asked bring an appetizer)

The Prayers of the People  
Dear friends, praying for each other by name is a special part of our life together. This is why we include our list in the Prayers of the People. But, every list needs to be maintained and kept up to date. If you are on the list and want to be kept on, please let me know. If you have asked for someone to be on the prayer list, please let me know if they should continue on the list. Our current list will run through the last Sunday of Epiphany. The list will be fully updated for Lent, for the Easter season, and regularly during the season of Pentecost. Also, it brings all of us joy when we can move someone from the prayer list and give thanks for their improvement. —- Dion+

And say yes, when the admitting person at AAMC asks if you would like a pastoral visit from someone from your preferred religious affiliation.
Pastoral visits by our Hospital Visitors are a great benefit of being part of St Anne’s parish. Our visitors are compassionate, respectful and faithful. And they are all trained as Eucharistic Visitors.
Hearing Loop
St. Anne’s has a hearing loop to better serve the 57% of people over  60 who have significant hearing loss. The Hearing Loop provides clean, clear sound without a headset and sends the voices of clergy and readers directly into the hearing aids of people sitting in the pews. If you have hearing loss but no hearing aids, ask an usher for a Loop Receiver with earbuds which you can use during the service. 
Light House Shelter
Cooking for the Light House Shelter
St. Anne’s and the Men’s Huddle provide and cook the evening meal at the Light House shelter the first Wednesday of every month.  We cook our items at home and gather at the Light House at 5:00 PM to serve the dinner. After serving, we get a plate and sit to eat and converse with the guests.  We are usually done by 7:00 PM.

Family Cooking for the Light House Shelter

Thank you to our February and March Family Light House Shelter volunteers! The Blair and William-Lopez families prepared the February meal, and the Cauley and Rentz families prepared the March meal. Your talents are admired, your generosity is appreciated, as is your service to our community. The Cauley and Rentz families used this as an opportunity for their teens to engage in a service project, and it was a rewarding experience for all.

We need volunteers for May 2018 and beyond! Volunteer families to come prepare, cook, and serve a meal for approximately 60 residents. This is a unique opportunity for the whole family to volunteer together. It’s also a great community service event for our youth. Children 11 years old and over are welcome to participate in family cooking. Each month I need 2 – 3 families to prepare a main course, side dishes, and dessert.  I pair up new families with experienced ones so no one is overwhelmed and I am most often there for support and help and to oversee things.
