The Department of Social Services provides the names of 75-100 children who have signed up for assistance for school supplies. During the month of July a large bulletin board is set up in the Narthex, before and after each Sunday service, with the names of these needy students (grades K through 5) and a list of the supplies they will need for the upcoming school year (including a backpack). Parishioners take one or more of these name tags and purchase the needed supplies and backpack for the student(s) selected. The full backpacks are returned to the church or parish house by early August for delivery to Annapolis Elementary School prior to the first day of school.
Volunteers are needed to collect and deliver backpacks and to help at sign-up tables after Sunday services.
