Clergy Epistle

Beloved in Christ,

Ash Wednesday is a solemn fast day and marks the beginning of Lent. My mentor and friend, The Rev. Canon Dr. Mark Anschutz frequently gives me homework. Much of this work enables me to be more reflective and intentional about ministry at St. Anne’s. However, my favorite assignment is his “Annual Lenten Homework” which I have given to you in the past and remind you of through this epistle.

Fast from judging others;

Feast on Christ dwelling in them.

Fast from illness;

Feast on the healing power of God.

Fast from words that pollute;

Feast on speech that purifies;

Fast from discontent;

Feast on gratitude.

Fast from anger;

Feast on patience.

Fast from pessimism;

Feast on optimism.

Fast from negatives;

Feast on alternatives.

Fast from bitterness;

Feast on forgiveness.

Fast from self concern;

Feast on compassion.

Fast from gossip.

Feast on purposeful silence.

Fast from problems that overwhelm;

Feast on prayer that sustains.

Fast from worry;

Feast on faith.

What will you fast from and what will you feast on? We are always here for you. If you would like to make an appointment for the Sacramental Rite of Reconciliation, please call or email us.

Prayers,

Manoj
