Being a Disciple

The Mazur, Pascal, Tempelton, Strang families, Dave, Lauren, and Tempest Strunge, Director of Children and Youth at St. Anne’s cook a Light House meal together in St. Anne’s Parish Hall kitchen.

Being a disciple is not for the faint of heart and is something that those who say they follow Jesus are called to do. As an Episcopalian, our Catechism speaks to the duty of Christians in the Outline of Faith as such:

“The duty of all Christians is to follow Christ; to come
together week by week for corporate worship; and to
work, pray, and give for the spread of the kingdom of
God”.

One wonderful example of this discipleship has been our Family Light House Cooking. We have gathered various families to come and work, pray, and give of themselves to feed others, simply for no other gain. I believe that this is a wonderful example of discipleship happening at St Anne’s.

Tempest Strunge, St. Anne’s Director of Children and Youth

I have powerful memories of cooking for a shelter in New York with my mother when I was a little older than Claire is now. As much as anything else, that experience instilled within me the idea that people in our communities sometimes need our help, and it showed me also what a joy it could be to serve. It’s important to us that Claire grows up understanding her responsibility to others, and the happiness that accompanies answering their call. I hope that cooking for the Lighthouse is her first step in a lifetime of service, and that it helps inspire something good within her that persists, the way it did for me after cooking in New York with my mother.
