Truth & Reconciliation Ministry Overview

The foundational work of St. Anne’s Truth & Reconciliation Ministry (TRM) commenced in 2019 following the Diocese of Maryland Bishop Eugene Taylor Sutton’s pastoral letter on reconciliation which calls us to “acknowledge that there can be no love without justice, and there can be no justice without some form of repairing an injustice.”

As we build a community of love, this ministry is focused on our future but grounded in our past. The vision of our ministry is to have become a fully reconciled and beloved community with our neighbors at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and other area congregations, and to be actively engaged in truth and reconciliation and social justice efforts in the wider Annapolis community and the diocese.

The components of the active, ongoing work of this ministry are listed here:

  • Regular discussions with members of St. Philip’s Anti-Racism Ministry led to a deeper understanding of how key it is for St. Anne’s to discover and acknowledge the truth of St. Anne’s own history. Efforts that are in progress on that score include learning through oral histories and research.

  • These discussions have also resulted in the formation of the Racial Reconciliation Collaborative (RRC). More information about this can be found at www.RRCmovement.org

  • Liaisons from the Cemetery Committee and ACT are integral to the work of the TRM and serve to connect the TRM to the wider community.

In summary and perhaps most importantly, woven into this ministry through discernment and listening, relationships are being built in the community that extend beyond the walls of St. Anne’s. We welcome you to join us.
