Maryland Episcopal Public Policy Network (MEPPN)- Advocate Today!

Maryland Episcopal Public Policy Network (MEPPN) has been involved in many bills going through the MD Legislature. One bill that we have supported is creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, SB 357.

Even within our congregation, many people with disabilities or the elderly cannot afford these out-of-pocket prescription drug increases.

A bill, SB 357, is going through the Senate that will start to help with this problem, and this is how you can help.

MEPPN is part of a coalition under the leadership of Healthcare for All that has supported a bill that empowers a board to negotiate prices with pharmaceutical companies. This will allow our state to set upper payment limits on prescriptions. There are only 2 drugs that will be chosen to negotiate at first, but others will follow. They have been working on this bill since 2017.

If you want more information on how to support this MEPPN initiative, please contact Susan Allen (susanallen0@mac.com) or Lynn Mortoro (ileos@aol.com).

Sample Script for Outreach to Senators

"I am urging Senator ___ to support Senate Bill 357 as it passed out of the Senate Finance Committee without exempting any prescription drugs. This legislation is critical so that the Prescription Drug Affordability Board can make high-cost drugs more affordable for ALL Marylanders."
