Maryland Episcopal Public Policy Network News.

In 2025, Marylanders put housing as their top concern. No wonder! Our neighbors face shockingly high foreclosure rates—from the 7th highest nationally in 2024, to the 3rd highest in our country in 2025. One of our friends—a 60-year-old permanently disabled from birth—recently received a foreclosure notice on her condo. Marlene is wheelchair bound, but her employment allowed her to purchase a home over 20 years ago. She paid unfailingly until a new lender bought her mortgage recently and neglected to pay fees and insurance required by law. Marlene saw a foreclosure notice in her online records. HB769 (Fairness in Foreclosures) takes one step to protect MD homeowners by putting a statute of limitations on foreclosures like 47 other states.  You can learn more about HB769 at Economic Action (https://econaction.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/HB769-FAQ-Sheey-1.pdf). The bill has passed in the House and is now being considered by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.
